Where can Canadians travel right now? This is the question on the minds of every avid Canadian globetrotter. Now, I am in no way endorsing travel nor am I shaming clients into staying home. In all honesty, I know of very few Canadians that are jet-setting around the world for pleasure purposes. All of my current clients have postponed their vacation plans indefinitely. Contrary to popular belief, Canadians are in fact permitted to travel. The all-out bans have been downgraded slightly, to non-essential travel advisories. Meaning, it’s not suggested, but not against the law. And currently, there is still a mandatory 14 day quarantine requirement up your return from anywhere in the world. But, if you are curious about where our passports are welcome, with few restrictions here is a current list of where Canadians can travel:
- Bahamas (Bahamas was originally open to US travellers, but has since banned them)
- Dominican Republic
- U.S. Virgin Islands
- United States (Canadians are only permitted to travel to the United States by plane and every state has their own regulations – You are required to quarantine in Hawaii!)
- Northern Macedonia
Destinations Set to Open to Canadians Soon:
- Sri Lanka (Yay!)
The above list represents destinations that have no quarantine requirement (unless otherwise noted). I’ve provided as many links as I could to make sure you have the most accurate and up-to-date information on each destination. It’s extremely important look over those government sites with a fine tooth comb because travel restrictions and bans can be implemented at any time. And with certain cities in the United States going back down into lock-down because of a surge in cases, and destinations around the world placing more restrictions on travellers from high-risk countries, you want to make sure you’re checking back on those sites daily before you make those travel plans.
It’s also important to remember that it could be difficult to obtain any sort of travel insurance policy that would protect in case you contracted Covid-19. I don’t want to dissuade you for the sake of being a pessimist, but I do want to make sure you are safe and armed with all the knowledge you need so you can make informed decisions about your travel plans.
